“Gardens and flowers have a way of bringing people together, drawing them from their homes.”
― Clare Ansberry
Based in Austin, Texas, The Dig In focuses on the trials and errors in the world of veggie gardening with recipes, tips & how-tos. It’s a place where people can find solutions to their gardening questions, learn from each other, and find a new recipe for that butternut squash growing in their backyard.
Gardening is one thing that, quite literally, grew Jenni and Shannon’s friendship. So they decided to join forces and share their insights as they continue on this gardening-learning journey. And yes, that means sharing all their successes and failures (but hopefully mostly successes) right here on The Dig In.
We love the fact that both gardening and eating are universal so whether someone is from Georgia or California, just starting your first garden or been gardening for years, there is something for everyone…so please dig in!
Jenni’s four children are the inspiration behind her small business, edie bird, local-centric company supplying eco-friendly & non-toxic household cleaning supplies. She’d rather work in the garden than clean her house, it’s so much more fun to get your hands dirty! Along with her family, Jenni is turning their ¼ acre lot in Austin, TX into an urban farm with a large garden, edible landscaping, chickens and perhaps one day…bees.
In 2011, Whole Living Magazine awarded a photo of her garden with the grand prize in their “Inspired Outdoor Living Spaces” photo contest. She also won “Best Edible Garden” in the 2012 Urban Garden Contest put on by Great Outdoor Nursery in South Austin.See posts by Jenni
Shannon’s love of gardening began with her love of cooking. What started as a few potted herbs to add some spice to her culinary creations on her porch in Seattle has turned into a mild obsession with her backyard in Austin and all things that grow (well mainly things that grow fruits or veggies).
Plus she loves being outside and tending to her garden and to see the ever-changing and new surprises it brings every day.
Shannon enjoys exploring Austin’s array of local restaurants with her husband Jeremy and exploring some of its sights with their dog Mabel. And when she’s not gardening or cooking up a storm, she builds websites for people.See posts by Shannon
